Sky Guide Explained

This guide is base on the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) software, version 3.4.4.b, standard definition receivers only
Sky Guide is the main way you control your viewing on Sky Digital and is split into four main areas, TV Guide, Box Office, Services and Interactive. This guide will look at them all in detail, explain what your options are, delve into all the submenus, show you how to use the Personal Planner, order Pay Per View and how to get the most out of all the interactive features available through your Sky Digital receiver.

Sky Remote
Everything you need to control and interact with Sky Digital, is right here on the Sky Digital Remote. You can even control your TV with it, see the Sky Remote TV Codes page.
It is not just interactive features that your remote can be used for, it is also used to enter the receivers many other features.
System Setup features such as picture format, RF channel, sound volume, Installers menu and features such as Favourites, your Personal Planner, and Sky Box Office.
NOTE: You can also control most televisions with your Sky, Sky+ or Sky+ HD remote.

Sky Intro (998)
Sky Intro on channel 998, provides information and advice about setting up and using your Sky receiver.
It provides information on setting up parental control, setting up the personal Planner and how to select Favorites.
Sky Intro also provides information for Sky+ and Sky+ HD subscribes, how to utilise the personal Planner for setting recordings.

Sky Preview (999)
Sky Preview on channel 999, provides informaton about upcoming programmes and films on Sky, and Sky+ HD. Also available on Sky Preview, the latest weather outlook and at the botton of the screen, a news ticker with news from Sky News and Sky Sports News.

Audio Description
Audio description is an additional commentary that describes what is happening on the screen or the stage for people who have difficulty seeing the action, body language, facial expressions, costume or scenery.
Sky has increased the amount of Audio Description. They now provide 20% AD on their channels, with the exception of Sky Sports and Sky News which is not required to provide audio description due the amount of spoken words used in news reading.
 
Subtitling
Subtitling for deaf and hard of hearing people is the synchronised written representation of all elements of a film or television programme soundtrack, including dialogue, music and other sound effects. Sky moved over to Re-Speaking for live subtitles in January 2006 and no longer use keyboards to create live subtitles.
Sky has been providing subtitling since 1993 and now offer subtitles on all Sky channels and 100% of Sky Box Office movies. Sky channels are regulated under the 2003 Communications Act, for the provision of subtitles
 
If you have a mobility impairment
In 2007 Sky developed the Sky+ Easy Grip Remote Control. This is the first Accessible Remote and has recently been awarded an Age OK Accreditation. As well as being designed to help grip the remote it also has raised buttons with larger text.
There is also addition navigation points on the buttons most often used. There are two styles both offering all the familiar features of the iconic Sky+ remote but with battery door options - either a textured easy-grip door or a hand strap option to help customers with dexterity problems.
Sky customers can receive a Easy grip remote control free of charge.
