YouView
YouView is an IPTV television service in the United Kingdom, the venture is a partnership between four broadcasters (BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV) and three communications companies (Arqiva, BT and TalkTalk).
YouView allows access to television channels, radio stations, on-demand services and internet content using a set-top box, 'hybrid' connected with an internet connection and an aerial to watch digital terrestrial television channels.
YouView provides access to the Freeview HD linear channels. Additional content is provided over the internet and can be accessed via the EPG, players or through an easy to use search function.
There are currently six players available providing access to TV programs and Films.
The players available are BBC iPlayer (free), 4oD (free), ITV player (free, England, Wales and NI) or STV (free, Scotland only), 5 on Demand (free), Milkshake (free, children's programming from Channel 5) and NowTV (£15 per month or pay per view, premium based film content powered by Sky).
 
What do you get with YouView?
With YouView, you get: Freeview, catch-up TV, High Definition and a personal video recorder (to pause, rewind and record live TV).
As well as showing what is on now and later, the YouView programme guide goes back in time. So you can watch what was on last night, or even last week – instantly, on your own TV.
YouView is subscription free, once you have your boxt, you plug it into your TV aerial and broadband and that’s it. Of course, for those who want more there will be a huge choice of on demand pay TV – including films, sports & US drama.
YouView has been specially created to allow developers to create apps for the TV. Plus, content providers can add their programmes to the guide.
 
How to get YouView
There are two ways to get YouView; directly from a retailer for a one off payment or as part of a package from a broadband provider.
YouView is available from your favourite high street retailer or local independent shop. Buy a box for a simple one-off payment and connect it to any broadband provider.
Get YouView as part of a phone and broadband package from BT or TalkTalk and access lots of extra programmes and films.

On Demand (Video On Demand)
YouView has a library of on demand programmes, series, films and radio. On demand is organised so you can see at a glance which programmes have just been added and which ones are the most popular. Of course, if you're just looking for a bit of inspiration or want to see what else is available, you can browse by genre or provider instead.
There are thousands of programmes available in on demand so we've organised them by genre to make it easy to find what you're looking for. Comedy, Kids and Documentaries are just a few of the great categories you can browse through. Got a favourite entertainment provider? YouView has all the players in one place so you can choose the one you want and find something to suit your mood. Got a favourite entertainment provider? YouView has BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5, all in one place. Milkshake! and STV Player are also now available on YouView. Milkshake! is home to some of the best loved preschool characters, including Noddy, Roary the Racing Car and Thomas. STV Player is the home of great Scottish content, featuring everything from documentaries and dramas to entertainment and news.
There are a range of pay movies available from Now TV on YouView.Watch Sky Movies one at a time with Pay & Play or get unlimited access with a monthly Sky Movies Pass.
Record, pause, rewind TV
Two of your favourite programmes on at the same time? With YouView you can record one show while watching another, or two while you're watching a third from the on demand library or MyView, pause the programme you are watching, or rewind to watch again.
Search
Search YouView content using your remote control, search for shows and films using a normal remote control. It is fast and really easy to use.
High Definition (HD)
Brighter, sharper pictures and sound. YouView supports full HD. On demand and catch up programmes are also available in HD, and if you record something in HD, you can watch it back in HD.
Your favourite programmes are available in extraordinary detail on BBC One HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD (STV HD in Scotland) and Channel 4 HD (Clirlun in Wales).
MyView
With MyView, managing your recordings is easy. Programmes are stored in one simple location and can be sorted by date or A-Z, making it really easy to find the programme you are looking for. Like to record lots of TV? You can store up to 300 hours of standard TV or around 150 hours of HD TV.
Mini Guide
Use the Mini guide to scroll quickly through channels whilst still watching TV. As you watch TV you can see what is on now and what is coming up next on all of the live channels. You can also scroll back up to 12 hours to see if there's a programme you've missed and would like to catch up on.

How to connect to YouView
Your broadband connection opens up a whole world of great TV, including 7 day catch up from BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player and Demand 5, as well as on demand programmes.
The broadband connection also enables you to search through thousands of shows and keeps your YouView box up to date.
Connect to your Broadband
YouView recommend a minimum broadband speed of 3Mb/s, watching on demand and catch up programmes will count towards any monthly broadband data allowance you may have.
Simply connect the ethernet cable supplied to your Youview box and the router. If your router is more than 2 metres from your box you will need a longer ethernet cable. Or if it is in a different room you might prefer a powerline adapter, which you can buy from your nearest electrical retailer.
Connect to your aerial
YouView connects to your aerial socket, bringing you over 70 digital channels to watch, record, pause and rewind. You will need good digital coverage, which most of the country now has.
Connect your existing aerial cable to the aerial connection on the back of your YouView box. Then connect your box to the TV using the HDMI cable supplied.
